DESIGN EVERYTHING × KINDRED
2024
‘The creative urge is a primordial force, as is joining forces in pursuit of a cause. Whenever we create something together, our results are bigger and more sustainable than what a single individual could have achieved.’ – Kristian Krog, Maltfabrikken
Design Everything was inspired by the many talented designers I’ve met in London who haven’t yet had the opportunity to share and explore their own work and practice. This motivated me to create a platform where emerging designers could come together to showcase their work in an environment that encourages both creative freedom and community.
Central to this project has been the idea of creative autonomy. It became increasingly important to us to build a platform where designers feel supported in realising their vision, with the only limitations being physical dimensions and functionality. How these objects are made, what they are made from, and their aesthetics are all determined by the designers themselves. We aim to provide a space for open conversation, allowing designers to work ‘in context’ while giving them the exposure they deserve.
When searching for a space, Kindred – run by my good friends Scarlet and Jojo – stood out as the perfect collaborator thanks to their open-minded approach to interdisciplinary projects and design. Scarlet and Jojo have always paid close attention to design, actively making their space both functional and aesthetically strong. Over the past four years, I’ve watched them build a community rooted in music that extends to art and design.
The name ‘Design Everything’ reflects our belief that design isn’t confined to specific tools or spaces. It’s about owning your limitations, rethinking your environment, and realising that you can create with whatever you have at hand. We want to inspire people to design everything around them, to follow their intuition, and to see the potential in everyday objects and spaces.
This project has been, and will continue to be, about dreaming big and having high ambitions, reimagining how we approach design with a strong sense of community, resourcefulness, and passion.
This book captures the process and work that has gone into the project. It offers an honest and transparent look into the lives and setups of London’s emerging designers – people who have built their own spaces out of pure passion. We hope the project and book inspire others to create their own spaces, form communities, collaborate, share knowledge, and continue to grow the design community.
We see London Design Festival as just the beginning for Design Everything. Looking ahead, our goal is to nurture this community, helping it grow stronger and more connected. We want to keep the conversation going, creating spaces where designers can ask questions, share ideas, and work together.
I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has been part of this project. The journey has been incredible, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the support, patience, and motivation of everyone involved.
