Yasmin Lennon-Chong is a designer + researcher working across industrial, 3D and spatial design, based in London, UK. With interests spanning both domestic + urban contexts, her practice is focused towards the role of affordances, typology and semiotics in the production of space, proposing a material + formal reshuffling which becomes a designers game of semantics + physical engineering. Utilising digital fabrication + lo-tech production interchangeably, her approach is centred around the idea of a ‘high-functioning’ design object achieved via material efficiency, resourcefulness and process-based complexity. Design here is understood as a constant form of prototyping, typological reshuffling + exchange of both agency and resources combined. Her projects have been presented through programmes including Atelier100, London Design Festival, and The Davidson Prize, and her work has been featured in Dezeen, Wallpaper*, The Architects’ Journal, and Design Week.

DAMN-BALLAST
‘DAMN-BALLAST’ is a temporary and mobile form of urban seating adapted from industrial ballast blocks used for stabilising construction fences in hazardous and developing urban environments. Reinterpreting and utilising their vessel-like forms as a series of ad-hoc seating devices, the stool offers both stability and an adaptive means of weighting or grounding its user on-site – as both durational urban dweller and industrial scavenger combined.
