Record Stand
I had just moved to London and even though I was living on a limited footprint I wanted to have my record player and vinyl collection in my bedroom. Since hanging picture frames weren’t allowed in our rented flat, I felt displaying and regularly changing album art would be a nicer touch. But I couldn’t find a suitable record stand that held records nicely without creasing or pinching the sleeve. I decided to make my own design with limited tools and whatever I could find at the hardware store. The bedroom floor became a workshop and I carefully measured, cut and drilled off-the-shelf lengths of pine and dowel. Knowing that I was going to move about in London I made sure the stand was collapsible. It became popular with friends who also had record collections – I ended up making a few stands for them with the idea that the foldable design could be sent to them in the post. It’s been a great object to have for the last 12 years and I’ve moved from place to place across London.
