Swiss Cheese Chair
I spent my entire budget on a single sheet of plywood that had previously been used on a building site, found using an online marketplace. To complete the side panels, I collected discarded pallet boards, then spent weeks cleaning, straightening and preparing the wood so it would fit accurately onto the plywood boxes. The connecting pegs were made from old broom handles rescued from my university’s waste materials, with heads cut from leftover plywood offcuts. Working within such a strict budget shaped both the construction and the concept. The result is a set of primitive forms that reflect these limitations they were created from. My chair gives users a flexible system to reconfigure and interact with beyond standard furniture, allowing for exploration and creativity that is guided by the limitations of how the boxes can be constructed.
