Familiar Form is a design studio led by Myeonga Seo and Marie Kolářová. Their collaborative practice bridges their distinct yet complementary creative backgrounds: Seo, with a deep fascination for materials, structures, and craft techniques, and Marie, with a foundation in graphic design and an eye for bold, visual storytelling. Together, they explore the intersections of graphical and decorative elements in both traditional crafts and contemporary industrial production methods. Their design philosophy revolves around reimagining familiar objects and environments, particularly in domestic spaces, through a playful, unconventional lens. By challenging norms and combining contrasting perspectives, Seo and Marie create designs that blur the boundaries between the functional and the poetic, the familiar and the unexpected.
A Seat at the Table: Chair 10
A stool made from stainless steel tubes, with every surface formed through welding. The project, ‘Colors of Welding’, explores the often-overlooked aesthetics of welding, highlighting the iridescent hues – blues, purples, and golds – naturally formed through TIG welding on stainless steel.
