Towel Hook
This towel hook was designed and made entirely within my rented flat. When our existing hook broke, I needed a replacement quickly and didn’t want to buy another one, so I worked with what
I had: a piece of timber from an old ladder left behind when we moved in, a coping saw, a small clamp and plenty of sandpaper. Most of the making happened on the floor, with the clamp fixed to the edge of a bookshelf – not ideal for my posture or the books collecting sawdust beneath it, but it worked! The piece was then entirely hand-sanded, gradually revealing the timber beneath layers of paint and stain. Even the fixing method was shaped by the reality of renting, with the dimensions designed to be fixed by removable adhesive strips. Rather than feeling restrictive, the limitations became the design brief, shaping the object’s final form.
