Millie Harris uses materials that embrace the irregularities of wood that are so often discarded. She merges the ideas of traditional furniture making such as the Windsor chair and woodturning rethought to create pieces that are more like three-dimensional art.
Stool
English oak, scorched and stained
450 x 300 x 420mm
Made from English oak, the stool has been scorched and ebonised to emphasise the grain and to dramatise the form of the seat – juxtaposing the waney edge with the sharp flint-like side. This Japanese method of finishing wood – Shou Sugi Ban – improves the material’s durability and creates an elegant finish that fits well in the space.
