When prototyping on a tighter budget, hardware shops are a go-to for many young designers. I often find myself looking through niche pieces of hardware or timber sections that could stand in for designed elements, or provide some acceptable level of functionality. The process is in itself creative, working with what’s available and affordable to you, and the mock-ups that come out of it have a level of transparency and playful nature that I’m trying to continue into this series. Working in this way, I’m designing a collection of objects that can be made in small batches as and when needed, capitalising on an easily accessible source of materials.
