Held Together Memo Board
My only working loom is currently in use, so I had to weave off loom. This is not new to me, I often weave directly onto furniture. On this occasion though, I wanted the woven element to be the main event. I came up with a memo board design, a simple pattern that is part decoration, part function. The bands of colour allow the user to tuck notes and photos into the structure of the weave. I used a repurposed frame to hold the linen yarn in tension, to act as a support and not a feature. The design decision to weave this way also complements my role as a mother. I am currently working in snatched pockets of time – nap time is vital making time, my parents picking up the slack. The portability of this project allowed me to work as and when, to a soundtrack of Hey Duggee.
