Imp Hooks
As a student, material costs are always a challenge to overcome. I try to use materials as efficiently as possible, in inventive, but simple ways. My tutor at the time gave about a meter of U-section aluminium. From there I produced 1:1 cardboard models, I worked out how I could manipulate the limited material I had, with a more freely available alternative. These strict limitations shaped the outcome of the project. The 45° cut creates the hook, for the sake of material efficiency, it made sense to repeat the cut-angle at the top and bottom. The sides then began to resemble ears or horns. I chose to develop them as characters, through considered screw placement and colour selection. I quite liked the imp-like resemblance, so red and black felt like obvious choices.
