Chair & Table
Studio Plait is a collaborative making space on the outskirts of London currently comprised of four members. Before sharing a workshop space we each spent several years working out of flat-shares, using the end of beds, backs of chairs and kitchen countertops as ad-hoc spaces for making.
These pieces are therefore as much about responding to limitation as they are born out of them. By hacking common archetypes (whilst ensuring they still retain their original function) they explore if making can be better facilitated within domestic spaces – an increasingly relevant topic in cities like London which are becoming more and more devoid of accessible workshops. With a very limited budget, each piece has been made exclusively out of offcuts, found pieces of furniture and second hand hardware bought on eBay and at car-boot sales.
