Trampoline Catchall
This project was a design challenge to create the ‘clown car’ effect in a product, fitting as much as possible into the smallest postage package. As an emerging, self-funded designer, working within a courier’s packing restrictions is what made producing and distributing this work possible. This approach achieved three things:
The cheapest shipping option let me redirect limited funds toward prototyping rather than transportation, effectively self-financing production.
The size restriction allowed for quick, small-scale prototyping in my bedroom, while challenging me to design pieces that transform between compact and full-size forms. The compact parcel size makes international design festivals more affordable to join.
For the majority I couldn’t attend in person, the work is easily shipped and constructed on-site by participating friends, opening access to venues and countries otherwise out of reach.
All prototypes were handmade in my bedroom: fabric patterns tested on the floor, wire frames hand-bent at my desk. The final design was cut and sewn in my room, with the stainless steel frames produced in China.
