10 × 10 Ally Lamp

‘10 × 10 Ally Lamp’ comes from a series of objects I started when I was looking to get into working with metal but had very little equipment or space to start. I came across the process of brazing aluminium which could be done with just a blow torch and brazing rods rather than the far more inaccessible joining method of tag welding. This was paired with the discovery that you could get aluminium sheet to size for you, with the limitation of a minimum cut to 10 × 10cm and at 90 degree angles. The first piece I made I brazed in the bedroom of the flat I was living in, 4 feet away from my bed. The restriction of the minimum 10cm cut size alongside the fact that brazing aluminium is a complete nightmare ultimately did the design work for me and made the work what it is.
