Offcuts Coat Rack

The stand I built for my degree show only existed for three days. I hated that fact, but I also wanted to put my best foot forward as a young designer. The limitation I set myself was simple: I didn’t want to waste material, so how could I work with what I had already?

That meant working entirely with what I could salvage from the stand. The pieces aren’t uniform by design, they’re uniform by necessity. The sizes are determined by where the previous joints had been cut. The form is shaped by the salvaged material and how I could treat and assemble them into a second life. This piece is a bit smaller than a conventional coat rack, but I wanted to keep that acknowledgement of where it came from to show the idea that if we treat our materials right, they can serve us for a long time.
