Tableau

Tableau is the first chair we produced independently as a design studio. Cost and making process directly influenced the design. Without access to complex or expensive manufacturing, we focused on cuts, creative assembly and joinery details. As a result, Tableau is made from wooden planks of the same width. This constraint became the starting point for the design. Within this simplified process, we wanted to keep both function and comfort, which led to details like the hanging backrest and the slightly raised top edges that can hold a bag or jacket. Tableau in French means both grid and artwork, reflecting how constraints can be turned into a creative approach. With a different process, the design would have been very different, but we appreciate the challenge of delivering a special design while working within economic and material limits.
