Richard Adetokunbo Aina is an award-winning British-Nigerian architect, craftsman, researcher, educator, and writer. A deep interest in material heritage, associative traditional practices, mixed typologies, and liminal spaces drives his work. He is the founder of I-JŌKŌ, a design brand and consultancy rooted in culture and driven by research. Through Afrorevivalism, they reimagine West African heritage for the present – crafting luxury objects, shaping meaningful interiors, and envisioning bold, enduring architecture for the future. All rooted in ethical and sustainable design practices towards circular design principles.

The stool features a modern, minimalist design that draws on both architectural and cultural African references. Its form is inspired by intersecting and stilted vaults, as well as the traditional Makonde stool of Tanzania, which is known for its sculptural and symbolic qualities.
