DESIGN EVERYTHING X KINDRED                        LDF 2024
19 London-based designers are collaborating with Design Everything and Kindred on a ‘live brief’- which will include an exhibition, live radio event and book launch. Each designer is given the freedom to re-create a functional object. The objects will become a permanent part of Kindred’s space and be available to purchase as part of London’s Design Festival 2024.
Design Everything is a design community and collaborative platform aimed at bridging the gap between emerging designers and real-world clients. By offering spaces for artistic expression and hands-on experience with live briefs, it will foster creative autonomy and exchange.

Curated by Lewis Duckworth, a young London based designer, Design Everything has a mission to support creatives transform their concepts from sketchbooks into tangible projects. Design Everything emphasises community engagement among young designers and organisations, encouraging collective creativity. This approach leads to new interpretations and discoveries, expanding individual thinking and fostering growth through networking and cooperation.

This year as part of London’s Design Festival, Design Everything has invited 19 London-based designers to collaborate with the vibrant cultural hub and record shop, Kindred.

Designing for an active space like Kindred means creating objects with function at their heart. A list was formed of various objects and furniture that the Kindred space would benefit from being introduced or altered to meet its daily multifunctional use. Objects were categorised into form and function, and each designer was encouraged to pick an object to redesign, allowing them to explore and expand upon their own practice.

Designers were given complete creative autonomy to re-imagine and transform the Kindred space through these objects. They were encouraged to engage with the working space and community ethos of Kindred through collective creativity and social interactions. The results will become a permanent part of Kindred’s shop and will be exhibited in a showroom above, available to see and order during London’s Design Week at Kindred’s Clerkenwell shop.

The exhibition will take place over the 7 days of London Design Week at Kindred. Each designer had total creative control over how they approached this brief, providing insight into their personal and design ethos. The outcomes range across various materials, including steel, aluminium, wood, ceramics. The 19 designers involved in the show are listed below.
